Half Dome's cables, first...

Half Dome's cables, first placed in 1919, aren't taken down each winter, but the steel poles holding them up are. The cables lie mostly buried under ice and snow which keep them firmly fixed to the rock and all but useless for winter ascents. Still, this route has not only been climbed in winter, but skied and snowboarded as well.

Interesting

I never new that people actually skied and snowboarded down Half Dome. I could just imagine a huge slab of snow and ice breaking off, scary.

Woa!

Who in his sane mind would ski/snowboard down? Hiking up/down the cables itself is scary! One can imagine, how scary sking down the granite with thin crust of snow/ice would be!
