High Plains Homestead
An almost-ghost town, the High Plains Homestead is in the badlands south of Roundtop Peak and on the edge of national forest land. The restaurant there serves great home-cooked food at very reasonable prices, and the rustic, but clean lodging there is also reasonably priced. It makes a great base for hiking expeditions in the nearby forests, peaks, and the badlands, including Toadstool Geologic Park, just a few miles north.
