Intense...

The words 'Intense' and 'Disturbing' come to mind. Powerful Image....

History?

Do you have a brief story/historical synopsis about these graves? It's sad but very interesting to see.

Re: History?

Julio, the man who showed them to us, said most of the graves are of older adults. He believes that the old people came down to the Majes River area, from the colder high areas, because of the ease of survival here, warmer climate, lots of fruit and vegetables, abundant water, much easier to grow crops and live. They came down to live their last years and die here. Rain and wind erosion, and vandels, have uncovered the graves, and there is no organization to protect or preserve the ruins. They are from the Wari (or Huari) culture, which is pre-Inca.
