Halo ridge was so beautifil. Great way to combine with Holy Cross. Those lakes below have to be some of Colorado's biggest natural alpine lakes
Big loop - Notch Mountain, UN 13248, Holy Cross Ridge, 13768 and Whitney Peak. Long day and did not see anyone, only people at the parking lot heading for Holy Cross Mountain.
Good day- 100 in Denver, low 70's on Mt Holy Cross with pleasant 5-10 knot breezes, no storms!
A must do...the views are spectacular!
From the Fall Creek trail to Holy Cross ridge and Mount of the Holy Cross and down the Half Moon trail. Great hike.
Climbed 13,831 on the halo ridge on the way to Mt of the holy cross! 13,831 ruled
3/10/17- tacked on holy cross ridge to my winter ascent of the mount of the holy cross. awesome outing! 69/100 in winter. oh those couloirs on HCR!
6/21/14- climbed over holy cross ridge and UN 13,248 during a descent of halo ridge after reaching holy cross' summit via the cross couloir. lots of painful talus along the ridge!
Kinda trail run, kinda hike, kinda tough.
Suboptimal conditions for trail runners, but still a great day.
Did a loop of the upper route.
Halo Descent of Holy Cross with summits of Holy Cross Ridge and PT 13248. Third trip around the Halo. Patchy snow on the ridge, lots of larger patches below Notch, but you can use them to cut some mileage. Wet with some snow patches in the trees.
Climbed while on the Halo Ridge enroute to Mt. of the Holy Cross. Great route and a great day!
Camped at Lake Constantine then did a loop up to the summit, south along the ridge, down to seven sisters lake and across to Mt Whitney.
8/7/05 - Standard Halo ridge circuit over Notch Mtn, UN 13248, Holy Cross Ridge & Holy Cross.
9/20/09 - Climbed UN 13768 along with Whitney via Fall Creek Trail.
12/23/12 - Winter summit of Holy Cross Ridge via Mt. of the Holy Cross standard route. 3 days/2 nights from bottom of Tigiwon Rd.
I tagged Holy Cross Ridge plus the other 13er summits on my may to Holy Cross starting on the Halo Ridge side. I eventually completed the Tour de Holy Cross descending the Halfmoon Pass trail before the storms hit the area. Awesome views all around!
From the summit of Holy Cross via standard route, continued on to Holy Cross Ridge (13831) summit. Planned to descend via the full loop, but decided to head back the same way due to ankle issues. (Which ended up being longer and more elevation, but easier trail.)
Due to Tigiwon Rd closure, I went for Holy Cross from the south. The road just past Fancy Creek was washed out. Packed into Hunky Dory Lake (heard that sites near Tuhare Lakes were soggy - they were). Reached east ridge of Pt 13,768, went over to Mt of HC, then back to HC Ridge. Came down to Tuhare Lakes - which was a big mistake! Spent a lot of time looking for a passable way down. Beautiful area! But lots of snow begets lots of rushing water.
With Dad and Erin.
Traversed Halo Ridge after climbing Mount of the Holy Cross. Nice hike, beautiful weather, gorgeous views.
Started at 3:30am and made it to Notch Mountain right after sunrise. The ridge was long as advertised but I didn't see a soul until the summit of Holy Cross. The north ridge seemed long but it may just be that I didn't go up that way so it was unfamiliar. Climbing back over Halfmoon Pass wasn't as tough as I had feared. Great route for a blue bird sky kind of day!
We decided on doing this route instead of going back up to Half Moon Pass. We had amazing weather all day long with amazing amazing views all over. The talus on the traverse kinda sucks after awhile, but it was doable. It was a very very long day, but well worth.
