Pouring rain -grateful this one is in the trees
HP#3. This highpoint is in the middle of nowhere very close to the Ohio State line near Darke County. It is in the middle of a very large farm inside a small grove of trees on a slightly elevated knoll. We read that it is privately owned and the owners are happy to have visitors. It is only about 50 feet off of the road. We were uncertain about the parking situation because the ground was snow covered. Inside the knoll was a picnic table, park bench, fire ring, large engraved stone and mailbox that contains the registration notebook and keepsake visitor card. Very clean and well kept.
3rd HP of trip, 2nd of day. Cold & overcast weather made for a quick stop.
Fun drive to the highpoint!
3rd of 4 HP trip.
Stayed in Greenville and up to hit this one before driving all the way to Illinois HP. Props to Indiana for taking good care of the simple HP here in a little wooded area amongst farms and a few houses near by. Always nice to see effort put into things like this.
Drove to this HP before a Cincinnati Reds game...
Simple quick walk in the woods, surrounded by all farm fields.
Nice little plot of forest in the middle of some fun farm roads. Not really the "feel" of a highpoint, but a nice little spot in the woods with a fire pit and sponsored bench.
In farm country here. Not much to see. Nicely kept though.
My 11th highpoint, I think. We drove here from Eldora Speedway after a race. Met up with some locals who were surprised is was the high point. It is not the most apparent thing when driving down the road, but would be a great spot for a break if you're driving in the area.
Loved the drive to this highpoint, beautiful country roads
2nd high point of the day. It was rainy driving to Hoosier Hill but when I got there the rain had stopped. Nice area. Really enjoyed it! Beautiful driving through farm country.
Brought me to a part of the Midwest I never would have seen!
Made this summit on the first day of taking on a new job. Definitely one of the longest hikes I've taken... ;-)
Second High Point
Please read my October 4, 2016 Climber's Log Post for Campbell Hill to appreciate this post.
I attempted to go to Hoosier Hill on October 5, but after getting lost for more than three hours, and my level of frustration from the day before, I decided to call it quits. I was planning to head home the next day not knowing what tomorrow would bring. After sleeping on my situation and a discussion with my wife, I went and reserved an additional night at the campground.
I was committed to not returning to the campground without finding Hoosier Hill; and I did!
This was our 19th Highpoint. We stopped by this one and Campbell Hill, OH on a trip from Florida to a meeting in Chicago, IL.
We left my cousin's place in Columbus and were heading out to Denver and South Dakota for a vacation and to see America. This was our second High Point of the trip out of five. Next stop, St. Louis for BBQ and to see the Arch.
This place had the shortest approach of any high point I've done--I practically hopped out of my car and onto the summit. It was cloudy when I was there, but I bet it's beautiful on a clear day. Nice job, Indiana, and thanks to the owners for allowing access!
Quick and easy. HP #24... First one in 5 years!
One of my first purposeful highpoints. Got my wife to stop with me on the way to chicago...roller coaster road was pretty cool on the way there if you go fast enough. ...and of course the epic highpoint
