Huandoy Sur

Huandoy Sur

The beautiful northeast face of Huandoy Sur in Peru's Cordillera Blanca. June 19, 2009. The approach is from the left side of the photo under the rock butresses (beware of falling rock). It is possible to camp on the glacier below the center of the face. A serac will shield you from rock fall. Melting snow has revealed more rocks on the lower third of the face, but it is still climbable. When we attempted it, we crossed the 'schrund to the left of the rock spur that extends through it. We then traversed to the right side of the spur before continuing up moderate mixed climbing to the center of the face. Unfortunately, we had to turn around when my parter fell ill [details spared.]
