Desert Spoon Afternoon

Desert Spoon Afternoon

Ground-level view of one of the agave species in central Arizona - the Sotol or Desert Spoon. Once you get past its amazing symmetry, you can see the 'serrated edges' on the leaves and fibers used by indegious people to weave baskets. Some sotols are actually used to make an intoxicating drink similiar to tequila. Photo taken southeast of Payson, Arizona (June 2, 2008)
