Moon Base Charlie

Moon Base Charlie

There is no greater puzzle in the world than the world itself. Between 9-to-10 million years ago, a volcanic eruption brought lava over the sandy beach of an ancient Arizona lake. The heat contained within the lava drew water from beneath the sand up into points. These formations, called fumaroles, served as chimneys to discharge steam and volcanic gases. A large amount of calcite was deposited within the fumaroles. Today, the 10-to-12 foot high "fossilized fumaroles" give the impression to unwary visitors that they are actually walking on the surface of the moon. January 13, 2010
