Picture this - the trademarks of central Arizona - blue sky, red rocks and blue-green-gray junipers touched by the
golden sun.
Brins Ridge along the Soldier Creek Trail - you said you wanted red ???
If you wanted green, I could have given you
Kermit the Frog!
For crying out loud! What is desert varnish ???
Desert varnish is COMMON throughout the arid desert regions of the Southwest. Desert varnish is a thin patina, only one-hundredth of a
millimeter thick, that can COLOR entire rock wall cliffs black or
reddish-brown.
The desert varnish found in the Sedona area is on the Schnebly Hill Formation sandstone cliffs.
