Double or triple redundancyClimbers, take a que from cave & wreck divers, at least have double, if not triple redundancy on the equipment that is vital that you decide to ultimately bring. A Bivy sack w/a tent, second light source or a few extra batteries. A smidge more food & water then you scaled down to initially.
Light weight climbers are very impressive, they are putting up routes that were previously un-dreamed of, but are you really that good? Consider survival OVER ethics & style, & you will live to climb again.
I have seen too many climbers, cops, divers & river runners etc, environmentally conscious themselves to death, or worse, a life in a bed staring at the ceiling.
Be safe, be smart, the mountain can handle a rappel ring here or there, a few bolts, if your life depends upon it, you have no excuse not to place & leave gear.
I'll tell you what, if this offends you, simply make a point to tell the next expedition going up, and they will be happy to retrieve your $60.00 cam and add it to their rack, when you left it to rappell.
The mountain, she will wait for you!
