Impassable Canyon

The final mile of the Middle Fork of the Salmon form one of America's deepest gorges. From 10,028 foot Mt. McGuire, the canyon cuts down to 3,000 feet at the river only five miles away. Only the lowest false summits are visible here. August 2004.
