Big walls of this stuff line the Hermit Creek Drainage not far below Hermit Camp. It's an incredible riparian habitat.

sorry Romek...I didn't noticed your note before. I think they are conglomerate minerals rather than lichens. That is a volcanic area and even if I don't know the geologic features of it...looking at the pic I think they could be be jasper, obsidian, shist and pirite.
Ask mark if you can show the picture to your collegue and let me know about it...I'm curious myself too.

No lichen visible at all, pure mineral. In addition to the minerals Barbara lists thier are mica and a lot of pink marble.
