Italian Simone Moro

Italian Simone Moro

North Face athlete Simone Moro, 38, has summited Mount Everest (three times), Broad Peak, Cho Oyu, Shisha Pangma (winter), Lhotse (twice) and 5 peaks over 7000 meters. He did the first winter climb of Marble Wall 6400m (Tien Shan), a 24-hour climb on Fitz Roy’s West Face (Patagonia), and has completed many other climbs around the world. Simone and Piotr Morawski summited Shisha Pangma after a fast five-hour climb in very strong winds. It was the first (real) winter ascent on a 8000er since 1988, and the first winter climb on Shisha Pangma. The Shisha winter summit was, in fact, Simone’s fifth winter climb. Since the December attempt on Annapurna in 1997 when Anatoli Boukreev died, Simone has had successful climbs on Aconcagua and Cerro Mirador (new route in alpine style in 1993), and on Marble Wall, the northernmost and coldest 6000er in Central Asia, with Denis Urubko in 2001. Simone Moro arrived Islamabad on 31st December 2007 .He told Karrar Haidri that his plan from last years for a BP/K2 winter double stands, although he'll focus on BP. Simone also brought an Italian partner from with him. Leonhard Werth is a strong climber according to Moro, and the two will be joined by Shaheen Baig in Skardu.

Simone

is one of our best alpinists, one of the best of the world. His exploits are really amazing.
The winter ascent of Broad Peak and K2 in perfect alpine style could be a legendary climb, but the risks are very high.
Good Luck Simone!

Re: Simone

I want to send my best wishes to Simone Moro and his team. I hope that they will summit Broad Peak and K2 in this Winter 2008.Best of luck.
None of Pakistan’s 8000ers (K2, Nanga Parbat, Broad Peak, GI, and GII) have been summited in winter. In Nepal, only Makalu still remains unclimbed during the cold season. This year, Pakistan’s government is continuing the reduced winter climbing fee of a nominal five percent.
