Marathonday
Started from the pasture at Malga Montasio, where I had made a night camp at the parking lot. Climbed the Pipan ladder to the top. Continued to Cima del Terrarossa and Foronon del Buinz to Rif. Corsi. Ran out of water (and there is not a drop to find up there!) and was wasted when I got to Rif. Corsi after close to 11 hours. But several mountain goats and excellent views made this a very enjoyable day.

Via pot Leva
Day for remembering as we climbed Montaz via pot Leva and than by Pipans ladders all the way to the summit. The views on the top were not the best because cloud was sitting on the top all day long. However as we started descending the views on both sides started to open.

via Dogna
We started with two cars, in Dogna valley / the other waiting at Pecol/, it really is impressive, Clapadoria so deep and terrifying.Bivouac Muschi is really funny - just an old blanket hanging in some secluded space. The climbing is fun, we had an experienced guy who did it before.Thanks.We climbed the top by Findeneggen route, down by the ladder.
Two years before that, me and my cousin climbed Montaz also by Findenegg gully. At Forcella Disteis we saw at least hundred wild goats,/ibexes/ sitting on the whole ridge - I have never seen something like that.Looking from below, it looked like huge amount of cut wood and broken branches, awesome.

Third time - finally on the top!
Ascent via Findenegg couloir, and back down across Pipan ladders and south slopes. Early start, great conditions, without any snow in the couloir. End of August and September is the best time for climbing Montaz.
2nd attempt 22.06.2010 -Southern ascent, a lot of snow, so we manage to reach Pipan ladders (2600m). The weather became hard, very dark cloud felt on us, so we agreed that there is not much sense to force icey ladder ascent, without any view from above. Nevertheless it was nice 'winter' climb!
First time - 30.09.2007.- early autumn snow manage to ruin our plans for summit. Then, it was even harder to climb, because snow was deep and soft. And the trail was badly marked.
However they renewed the marks and steel ropes last year!

It was freezing
Started ascent from the Altipiano above Sella Nevea. It was already freezing on elevation of 2700 meter, and it was really not pleasant to go up the long steel ladder without gloves. And a group of 20 Russian climbers were descenting on the same ladder... But the mountain is magnificient

Via Amalia + Findenegg and the Pipan ladder for descent
It was a part of a longer hike. The whole route was the following: Malga Saisera - Biv. Stuparich - Biv. Suringar - Montasio - Biv. Suringar - Rif. Brazza - Rif. Corsi - Biv. Gorizia - Sentiero del Centenario - Frocella Mose - Cime Castrein - Biv. Mazzeni - Malga Saisera
Route Climbed: Ascent via Findenegg couloir, descent via normal route using Pipan's ladder Date Climbed: 18 August 2005
Climbed Iof de Montasio in August 2005 with my girlfriend Irene.
Nice climb (UIAA I. - II.) via Findenegg couloir. Really strange rock formations. Beautiful weather in the morning, then some clouds and fog, but quite ok.
It was fun using pipan's ladder ("Scala Pipan") during the descent.
Route Climbed: South route Date Climbed: August 6th, 2005
With Sasa Gospic - Velebit and his friends we ascended the south route. As it was obvious that the weather will deteriorate, we didn't have the whole day. Still, the scenery was great. It was only my second ascent, after the first one in 1975.
