Fine collection

Hi Tomas,
Great pics of an outstanding mountain. As to the name: not Buzzard (don’t know the Slovak word for the bird, might be the same as Czech: "kane"; in Polish this is "myszołów" = mouse hunter) but Hawk Tower (or maybe Goshawk Tower). BTW The funny thing is "kania" in Polish = "lunak", not "kane" in Czech (Slovak as well?)

Re: Fine collection

Hi Jacek, thanks for a good point. I'm not a perfect expert for english ornithologic terms, but I'm pretty sure that accipiter is the latin/english name for that bird. It is "jastrab" in slovakian and myszolow is the name for the common bird of prey called mysiak horny (buteo buteo). If that's what buzzard means, then it should be removed. I think this is the case, so I changed the english name for the tower. Hope to ascend it soon to be able to write a mountain page of this wonderful summit. Cheers, Tomas :)

still unhappy :-)

Sorry, Tomas, but I just have to say I'm not happy yet! :-) "Accipiter" is Latin, not English.
A "hawk" is a broader term:
1. any of numerous birds of prey of the family Accipitridae.

2. any of several similar, unrelated birds, e.g. the nighthawk.

Which comes down to this:
a)hawk = jastrab/krahujec/some more (1) + some species of mysiak and even some diverse birds (2)
b) jastrab = goshawk ("gos" stems from "goose" as it hunts them)

The conclusion is - you have to decide on either Goshawk Tower or Hawk Tower (you just have to believe me - I've translated things for ages, e.g. for National Geographic :-)
