Cocktails in the Sierra!
Camped at Redrock Meadow and had a cocktail party before summitting the next day. Made the peak as snow/groppel began coming down. All in all, a fine Memorail Day weekend trip in the southern Sierra.
Couldn't find a summit register so placed a new one

From Blackrock Trailhead
Dayhike starting at Blackrock TH. Hiked to Redrocks Meadows then turned west towards Cold Meadow and up Kern's South Ridge to the summit. Pretty much a long hike through the forest, but expansive 360 degree views from the summit.
Spent the night near the Kern River after climbing Cartago and Muah the day before. Went up the east ridge and face of Kern Peak in the morning before working my way down the trail and up to Big Whitney Meadow for a second night prior to a visit to Cirque Peak.

Climbed from Haiwee Pass During 2012 Memorial Day Massacre
Done as part of the 2012 Memorial Day Massacre a 5 day 96 mile 20k gain loop originating from Haiwee Pass on the east side.
We did this on day three after hitting Deer Mountain, Doc, and Indian Head and being unable to reach Hockett Peak on previous days. We spent a rather pleasant night on the shoulder just east of the peak before continuing north to grab Red Hill and Cinder Cone before looping back to the south along Templeton and Monache Meadows.
Climbed on Day 2 of a 3 Day Backpack Trip. Nice challenging climb with great scenery along the way.

From North
Nice isolated peak; from Horseshoe Meadows with a backpack in 81F heat. This could be a brutal dayhike from the N.

East Face / South Ridge
With Tom Becht, below. A moderate day, nice views from the summit, too much grazing allowed in what otherwise would be beautiful meadows along the way. Trip Report

Blackrock TH day hike
Nice dayhike with Bob out of Blackrock, about 26 miles r/t. Climbed the East Face (which is really just a talus slope) and descended via the South Ridge. Took a slightly different route back.

via Jordan Hot Springs
With a big Sierra Club group we took a detour through Jordan Hot Springs for lunch and browsing, to camp at Redrocks Meadows. From the Blackrock TH it was a 2500' drop to the Hot Springs, then 2500' back up to camp. Unfortunately the 2002 fire burned up all our shade leaving us overly exposed. Took the trail most of the way to the peak with views deserving of its former designation as a fire lookout. Took the regular trail, 1800' gain death march back to the cars after that.
Route Climbed: Kern Peak Trail Date Climbed: June 16, 2002
Fun trip! Most notable moment was seeing a deer being chased by a humongous coyote just feet away from us on our way up to the summit. The coyote got distracted by our group and the lucky deer managed to escape. What an incredible wilderness experience!
