WTG Michael and Dave! I ran into Dave on Olympus Saturday and he said that if anyone inquired about doing Kings on snowshoes, he would tell them to practice their skiing.
to see Dave speeding up and down the peak's slopes in his crampons. I am always too lazy to pack mine, even though it looks like crampons could save some time and energy there.
But as regards your wow never to do it on skis again ... I am sure that it should really mean, "never do it again unprepared". With your physical and mental stamina it should be a lot more fun on skis ... after working a tad more on the skiing skills. From a bruising near-defeat of 2008 to a fun run, there is but one step :)
so is that runtime about 20 hours? I didn't read much of the article but tried to notice the start and finish time. you started hiking at 4:30am and finished at midnight? and I thought I was crazy for doing it in 14 hours during the summer. that's amazing what you guys did.
We actually finished at 12:45, so the elapsed total time was 18 hours and 15 minutes. No question, even 14 hours is a loooong day. Congrats on your one-day summer conquest!
dude, i love your report. me and friend were totally going to do this but dew to our "responsible" adult having to jump out at the last minute our trip was cancalled and we had to settle for a shorter, closer to home expedition.
props to you, 20 hours is pretty fast, i know how hard it is up in the backcountry. nice pics too!! great report! for anybody reading this, the uintahs in winter is not something to miss

AwesomeGreat to read your account of the day. You guys are super-fast on those shoes. I've already decided to go back next year. On skis of course.

Re: wow!Michael, 4:30am to 12:45am the next day is 20hrs and 15min, a very long day, especially considering the drive to and from the TH.
