Kings in 3 days
Yeah, 3 days up Kings was so relaxing. Getting caught in a thunderstorm and seeing lightning strike near us wasn't so relaxing. This is a very beautiful climb. Thanks Kings!

Kings
Sept 2, 2011
Summited on a quick 2-day trip to the area. Climbed Mt Powell on the first day, then from a basecamp 2 miles below Gunsight Pass, I went over into Painter Basin and traversed the ridge from Trail Rider Pk to Kings. Saw few people buts lots of sheep (and I don't mean the wild kind!).
August 20, 2010
Climbed from Henrys Fk with a friend. Great weather, and delicious bourbon back at camp.

Great Peak
Hiked in Saturday and camped in the last pines before Gunsight. Bagged the summit on Sunday morning, packed up and headed home. Awesome peak.
We ran into some heavy rain on the way down gunsight but it cleared up within an hour.

Tired Boxer
This is a long one. I think it's on par with Hood. My boxer made the summit. Still lots of snow. He then slept for 24 hours straight.

Rocks, Mosquitos, and Wind, Oh My!
I'm thinking about writing a trip report, but was hoping someone could tell me if there's a register at the summit. Because of high wind and fog and concern for my partner, I summitted just long enough to say "I did it" before heading back down. I did not look very hard, but was just wondering if there was one there.
There is no mailbox. As the Highpointer's Club Kings Peak Liaison, I questioned the Forest Service about putting one in. The Forest Service doesn't allow one on Kings because it's in a Wilderness Area. Go figure. I've seen mailboxes in other Wilderness Areas. By the way, how was Elkhorn Crossing and overall trail conditions? I had heard the new bridge built last year was washed out.
There's another new bridge there. Not quite as robust as the previous one (one end is still hangin' on), but should last the season no problem. It's just three poles lashed side-by-side.
The trail's great all the way up to Gunsight Pass. A few muddy areas prior to Dollar from the sheep and horses, but nothing bad. I was surprised, though, at the lack of trail between Gunsight and Anderson on the traverse, especially through the boulder field. Wasn't sure if we should have stayed higher instead of crossing straight over to Anderson.
Thanks for answering my question. I did get the right "summit" and even ventured over a few more false ones to make sure I got the right one. With the fog as thick as it was, I couldn't even tell if I was getting lower or higher. What a hike!
Glad you had a successful hike and thanks for the trail info. I have friends heading to Kings. I'll be able to give them and other highpointers first hand knowledge about trail conditions. Keep Klimbin and be safe.

Kings Solo
Everyone else that was planning on the trek to the summit of Kings Peak bugged out, but I was determined to see it through. After convincing my dear wife that even though I would be attempting the peak solo, there would be many fellow hikers around me at (basically) all times, I made the trip.
One night in to Dollar Lake, summit on day 2, hike out from Dollar Lake and drive home on day 3. Descended via the "chute" which I would recommend only if you are comfortable on steep, rocky terrain. Rock fall is a real danger here.

Summited King's with my sister. Hiked from Alligator lake to the summit in one day. Summited around 6:30 pm as the sun was going down. Made it back to Dollar Lake around 10:00 pm. Great time of the year to hike if you can find a weeked with warm clear weather. Only saw a half a dozen other people the whole weekend.

First test of the Altra Lone Peak's
Out on a fastpacking trip with a couple of buddies. Tested the new "Lone Peak" by my company Altra Footwear. The Zero Drop platform and foot shaped last were incredible. We hiked/ran about 30 miles this day. King's summit was about halfway. We ran up from a couple of miles below Anderson Pass, summitted, took pics, and ran back to our packs only to book another 10 miles or so before cliff jumping off the rocks into the snow and bouncing into the icy lake wearing "The Adam" by Altra as well. Pretty stellar day.
