Re: Inspiring Spires!

The traverse of the Aiguilles du Diable is one of the great classics of the Mont Blanc group, described in the most popular climbing guides (Vallot and Buscaini). This means that it is repeated often.

Boring

I am bored by these photos. I don't say, that they are bad (the best photographer on the world can not photograph this better, but the best photographer would never photograph this, because there is nothing interesting).

Re: Boring

"Boring" is very subjective. I find the spires and the "shine" of the rock rather interesting. I personally like photos with the mood that clouds, especially dark ones, give, but a deep blue sky can make a great background, too, though I think there's a little too much empty sky in this one, but that's just my opinion and not a reason to downvote. I didn't vote on this one because I'm trying to get into the habit of only voting on photos that have captions or diagrams with useful hiking or climbing information or which go nicely on a mountain or route page, but this is still a very nice photograph. You're free to question whether the photo has a useful purpose beyond just visual enjoyment, but downvoting on the premise that it's boring, especially when you don't clearly explain why, seems a little unfair. Just my opinion, not the law!

Re: Boring

I agree, that's subjective.
I abide by my feeling. And this photo haven't captived me at all. I can see only a wall with nothing. Maybe, if there were a climbing man or specific light or different composition (zoom out), I would like it more. But there's nothing.
And I think the photos are here for voting, aren't they? Or an author of a photo can easily write a request "don't vote please". I'm not a "punisher" or something. But I think, this photo is about nothing.

Re: Boring

for my feeling I found very boring seeing some pics of Dolomites groups, very similar to already post ones and not much better, posted and attached to 5-6-7 different pages !

Re: Boring

And the composition... Imho it's very narrow. It looks very constraint.

Re: Boring

Me too, that's why I'm not doing this anymore. Interesting, that you have used this right now. Why didn't you tell me this earlier?

Re: Boring

Anyway these pictures not just for entertaining you. The original objective of summitpost was to inform the people about mountains, routes, places. So if you have an informative photo about a mountain (maybe not an artistic one) it is OK if you upload it.
I agree boring is subjective but I think this photo is not a boring one. I like it. But it is also a very subjective opinion. :-)))) Peace.

Re: Boring

Yes, you're right. I understand the vision of Summitpost. But I just don't like it, that's all. It's not a big deal.

Re: Boring

Take heart, Turista. Not all is lost. If you keep studying photography, and keep going to the mountains, maybe one day you'll see why this is a great picture that appeals to the true mountaineer.

your photos...

are incredible Antonio, and your enhancement efforts are also worthwhile....they all look like you can reach out and touch the subject....however I would indeed prefer that you would put more effort into referencing what we are looking at. I don't vote unless you do that and I realize most everyone else obviously does. You have a third of the top photos for this past week, pretty impressive for one individual and pretty consistent week in and week out. But of those 8 out of the top 30 photos that are indeed yours, not one has any pertinent information outside of elevation and name, not one. Never a reference to route beta, direction it was shot from, date, nothing. Would be very cool if you would educate us as to what some of these magnificent photos represent. I am being very sincere, you have been very supportive of my work and I appreciate your contributions as well. Cheers.

Wow...

Tough Crowd..and very inspiring.

I have a narrow wall where that would hang perfectly. L'aiguille du Diable page has no other images cropped like that one.

You're the man!
