Alta mira?

Gracias - looks like a person may find many
"archaeological clues" to the ancient past?

Re: Alta mira?

Hi larry. It really is Alta (high) but this Mira has nothig to do with the Altamira you are thinking. But Spain is old and full of old things everywhere. For example, the pass you can see has a toll in midle age and remains of keeper's hut.
And thanks for the comment and play on words.
Greetings

Re: Alta mira?

Ahhhhhh - the Middle Ages! The strategic
position of mountain passes was a key
ingredient back then.

Is there any evidence of people being there
BEFORE the Middle Ages? Thank you very much!!!

Re: Alta mira?

Yes... as far as I know, Gredos is crossed by two Roman paved roads. There are scultures of bulls (called Verracos) distribued by the most of the Sierra, from Vettones, a Celtic people that live there from about 2,000 years BC to Romans invasion. And some neolithic archeological sites (about 10,000 years old) have been excavaded.
