solo climb?

Hi Alex! Nice and very informative photos over the

west ridge! I plan to climb the Lagginhorn myself

end of August. When did you climb it? August?

I believe one does not face any major difficulties

for a solo climb, right? Gruss. André, Stockholm

Re: solo climb?

Hi Andre,

thank you for joining my photos.

Climbing the west ridge of Lagginhorn is one of the plenty solo climbs on a 4000 meter peak in the alps. The difficulties are not very high, some sections are rated with II. The best choice of climbing this mountain is to do the hole ridge without touching the glacier. But you have to take your crampons with you, because the last 200 meters of the ridge are covered with snow and they are little bit steep (if you stand at the beginning of the summit icefield you won`t believe, that it takes 45 min to reach the summit!!!). 200 meters above the Weissmies-Hut is a large plateau. If you take a tent with you, you can spend the night there - one of the most beautiful sundowns I have ever seen was from there. There is a small river also, so you must not take water with you. I hope you will enjoy your trip to Saas Fee valley. Please write an e-mail when you have climbed Lagginhorn.

Bye, Alex.

Re: solo climb?

Hi Robert!!

Many thanks for your reply!

Yes, I am really looking forward to this climb I plan

to do end Aug.

I am daily cheking out the Lagginhorn here:

I will also try the Ulrichshorn on the other side as

a warm-up. I am praying for good weather!

I let you know the outcome! /rgds André

Lagginhorn!

Hello Alex!

I had a great hike up on the Lagginhorn!

On the day I went, no snow what so ever on the entire west-ridge. Guess rather unsual, right?

You can see my pics on the Lagginhorn-page.

Also I updated the Ulrichshorn page with some pics.

Do you have any more recommendations for 4000-solo climbs? next year I am thinking about Nadelhorn. Have you done it?

cheers! André
