Smith in the morning, then Lamont. I picked more ticks off my pants in one mile than I've had on me in my entire life!
After a wild trip in November yielded the most memorable campground camping of my life, but no summits, I returned with family to explore some ridgrtop boulders as well as this easy and enjoyable peak.
With friends from all over California. Climbed West Lamont along the way -- nice class 3 scramble. Pictures
Unrelentingly steep, but fun. An early-season SPS peak.
I hadn't expected much from 'the easiest peak on the SPS list,' but his peak really surprised me. It was a beautiful day in a cool area.
Nice walk up from Canebrake. Very little snow.
A short but very enjoyable climb. Many birds flying around overhead.
quick and easy trip up the lamont peak trail.
Fun morning with Ty Hilton and Justin Kohut. Short steep trail with optional third class. Easy but fun.
Follow the trail all the way to the peak.
Did this with MD after 4 hrs of sleep in car on Canebrake rd.
We initially had the intent of doing Spanish Needle and/or Sawtooth Peaks after Lamont, but instead slept for two hours on the summit. Very nice.
Climbed with brother Jon. For those not sure if they've hit the right point, there is an ammo box containing summit registers that is chained to a point near the top of the summit block. We saw similar chained ammo boxes on other peaks in the area.
Lovely day for a summit.
Climbed two bumps, but the visibility was so bad I couldn't figure if I got the correct Lamont.
Hoofed up the trail with my friend, Jim, as we started a traverse over to East Lamont and Spanish Needle. Had thought about Lamont Point instead, but were tired of sidehilling and ridge running and rain and hail and... nice walk out Lamont Meadow afterward.
I took the trail to the top but couldn't figure if I was on the summit or not. Hmmm?
My first peak in the Sierras
Quick dayhike- first time seeing the Southern Sierra. On the drive back after a great Thanksgiving weekend in Saline Valley. Tagged the highpoint further east too.
Wanted a short hike to break up the drive between Lone Pine and San Jose, and this looked like a good candidate. Followed the trail to the top. Scrambled up the wrong rock pile first, but that's okay - it was a fun summit area to play around in. Lots of wildflowers lining the trail right now. Good fun peak that at least gets in a bit of a workout due to the climb.
