From LYV  Sucess!

Overall a fairly easy scramble from the LYV trail near Nevada falls; the only tricky part was in the upper gully, as snow was still lingering there. Got a view of Nevada Falls from the top, and saw three bears as we were descending. The "trail" is fairly easy to find; there are well established cairns about every 100 feet.

NE Gully  Sucess!

Agree, keeping to the climber's right in the gully is easier, less bushwhacking.

NE Gully

Great hike with a tough, fast, & fun meetup club. We were rewarded with excellent views and no other company but us. Due to the drought there were just a few patches of snow & ice but those Jeffries on top were green and still hanging on.

NE Gully  Sucess!

1 year anniversary hike after breaking my ankle the year before.
Hit Sierra Point on the way up before ascending the NE Gully.

Pics and commentary are here.

Northeast Gully  Sucess!

Probably the best approach ever, didn't even care if we got to the summit. Falls are peaking and we left early enough in the morning to avoid the crowds on the Mist trail. Found our solitude steps off the trail out of LYV. Fun day, great views.

Winterish Ascent  Sucess!

Climbed up from the valley. No snow at all on the way up. Strange winter. Got really warm climbing. It's like summer. Fun summit! Awesome views!

Bushwack!  Sucess!

Skirted the shoulder of LC before cutting in. The best way is to stay to the climber's right of the summit heading South. Views were okay...

NE Gully  Sucess!

It was easy enough to find my way from the JMT, although there are a myriad of use trails (many with recent footprints) all over the NE side of the dome. I had a nice little nap with accompanying sunburn on the summit before descending via the notch between Liberty Cap and Mt Broderick. In the snow remaining in the notch, I saw footprint evidence of a bear glissading :)

Route: NE Gully, Date: 01.20.07  Sucess!

Yet another beautiful view of Yosemite - made the bushwacking and falling in snow up to waist well worth it. Even made a snow angel off of the JMT on my way back.

Northeast Gully  Sucess!

Beautiful hike in the newly fallen snow. Saw only two other people all day long on the hike up from the Happy Isles trailhead. Yosemite in winter is a much different experience than the summertime tourist zoo.
