Originally came out to do the Ruby Mountains Traverse trail, but my partner bailed when it snowed, so I ended up meeting with another friend for a few days and we ended up hiking to the summit of this peak and the over to Favre Benchmark. Love the Rubys!

Circumnavigated the lake to hit up Liberty Peak
Went quite quickly up the horse trail from Roads End TH, then hung a right, heading west toward the high ridgeline that overlooks Box Canyon. Went nearly directly up the ridgeline that ascends higher and higher above Lamoille Lake, and voila, went right about 100 meters to the summit. Dropped down to Liberty Pass/Ruby Crest Trail from there and took that back down. Hopped back on horse trail since that's 1.5 miles to TH instead of main trail that's 2 miles from that fork. Booked it back down, jogging some, and finished right at 3.5 hours as it was getting dark.
First trip into the area and wow! It’s been said before pretty easy hike to gain access to the summit. Signed the log at the top and had a spot to eat. Then visited the lower lakes below the pass. 10 miles in under 3 hours at a good pace. And so close to Elko. Truly a gem of Nevada.

Nice, easy hike
After yesterday's trip to Thomas, Thomas Benchmark, and Full House (no Summitpost page), Liberty Peak was an easy day. All of these are on the Nevada 11,000 list, i.e., Nevada peaks over 11,000' of elevation, of which there are 61 ranked peaks and several that don't pass the Colorado rule. It's a great list.

Pretty easy but beautiful climb
Hiked to Liberty Pass and took the ridgeline to the summit, not much snow but a decent field of it below the summit. Beautiful views of Favre Lake and Castle Lake and the surrounding higher summits.

snow
surprised to see snow on the trail in July in Nevada. No snow on the talus past Liberty Pass. By far my favorite mountain range in Nevada

Class trip flex option
Took a great class offered by UNR that entailed camping in Lamoile Canyon for 3 days. Class hiked up over Libery Pass on 1 of the days and the instructor allowed me to take a group up to the peak while they continued on to the lakes.

North RidgeAscended the north ridge from the 10,200' saddle, as that option was less snowy than the trail to liberty pass. 2011 was quite a snow year in Nevada!

South SlopeWith a few other peaks in the area, part of a very enjoyable NV roadtrip. Trip Report.
