Climbed the Lion's east face
It's maybe 20 minutes from the Provo Peak parking area. Just go west and you'll find a trail to the saddle and a faint trail to the top from there. This is one of those mountains which is right in the thick of things. There are great views all around, unless the peaks are covered in clouds...but then it's still great.

Shrouded in clouds
and an autumnal dreamboat. Quick jaunt up from Squaw Peak Road after hitting Buffalo and just before Buckley.

Spirit Animal
I always felt that my spirit animal was a lion. Whether it is the way I walk with upright pompous posture. Or my ability to leap incredible heights. It also could be my I am the king of this castle attitude. Then again it could be from my toddler years watching Lion King and looking up to strong female characters like Nala and Sarabi. Either way the point is that I had to have this summit. So I got what I wanted, like any lion would.

Bumble Bee Comes out of the Barn to Sting You
I started at the pass about 2.5 miles from Rock Canyon campground and hiked the trail on the west side of the pass. This trail will hit the ridge line of Lion Head and Peak 8753. From here there is a faint trail heading south up the ridgeline to Lion Head. Excellent views from up here. A bee decided to sting my knuckle and ruin my most excellent time. Still worth it. I think. Feel bad for poor Lion Head. Y Mountain in front of it gets the attention, Provo Peak behind it gets some love, and here it sits, like a lamb, not a lion.

Powerhouse Mtn, Horse Mtn, Lion Head, and Buffalo Peak
Did Powerhouse, drove the Pole Heaven Road over and hiked to the top of Horse Mtn, then drove and did this one from the Provo Peak Parking Area. It took about 20 minutes, came down in the dark and missed the trail back, bushwacking back to car took another 20 minutes. Drove over and did Buffalo Peak. From the start of Powerhouse to top of Buffalo took less than 3 hours including driving time. Great night!

Nice Fall Day
Took a friend and her dog out on a nice hike. We were looking for the trail from the backside of Squaw Peak, but ended up doing this one instead.
Did both these in late fall 2004. Hiked up the Y trail at night and camped just to the east of Y mountain. In the morning, snowshoed up these two and on to Provo Peak, taking the west ridge, and descending via the drainage just south of the peak that runs into slate canyon.

East Face
I started hiking from the Provo Peak parking area. I found a nice trail that went to the saddle that was northeast of Lion Head. I hiked to Peak 8,753 first. The ridge actually had a climbers trail on it. Then I hiked up to Lion Head. I saw the pink ribbon on the highest point. There was a cairn on a lower point farther north which has a great view. I wanted to climb more peaks in the area but the weather turned bad. It started snowing as clouds engulfed the summit.

Easy, quick hike!
I hit these after I had hiked Buckley Mountain earlier in the morning. Used the trail by the Provo Peak parking area, (Trail 62) to reach the saddle between Lion Head and Peak 8753, walked the ridge to Peak 8753, then retraced my steps back to the saddle, then went up to Lion Head. Very easy hike, although while trail running down through the aspens I nearly stepped on a rattlesnake. He looked to be a western diamondback and was not coiled at first. He sure looked to be 5ft long if not a little longer, but the initial surprise may have caused me to think that he was longer than he really was. I did not know they could grow that long. He was rattling up a storm! I slowly backed away stomping my feet so he could feel my vibrations getting farther away and then I went through the aspens about 30 feet above from where I saw him and heard him before getting back on the trail.

Buffalo and Lion's Head
First I did the little hike up to the top of Buffalo Peak, a bit to the north of Lion's Head. Then I drove up to the spot where I had hiked up Provo Peak the year before but instead of going up Provo again, I hiked up to the top of the peak to the west, which turned out to be Lion's Head (Pk 9001 on the map). From there I scouted Maple Mountain which I did from the valley floor on the 13th. I left a pink ribbon tied around a rock on the highest spot. Fun little hike.

Easy mountain with stunning summit views. Great winter hike/ski for periods of high avalanche danger in the higher elevations.
