A suggestion...

...for the section on the North Face Route from Avalanche Lake.

I realize this is not the ascent you are recommending, but it still might be worth mentioning a couple things: First, that the elevation gain from Avalanche Lake to the summit is just under 4,000 feet, much of it honest-to-gosh climbing! And secondly, this quote from the Edwards' book (p. 68) is quite telling, and probably worth quoting: ...climbed from Avalanche Lake directly to the summit of Little Matterhorn. They described their first ascent as a grueling technical ascent involving seven very intense pitches. They had difficulty finding safe rappel routes on the descent, and reached Avalanche Lake after sixteen hours on the face.

The North Face Route, most definitely NOT a climb for beginners!
