First in 2004, then two more times since.
Not as loose as it looked, but I need to return for the north ridge.
Returned for the north ridge later. Other than one spicy section, it was not as committing or sustained as I had hoped. Trip report
Solo hike July 01, 2011. Started from Whitney Portal campground at 6:30am on a warm July morning. Gained Grass Lake in no time through patches of snow and had lunch. Started up the Northwest Slope and found staying to far left edge of slope afforded easier footing. Once on the saddle, made the mistake of staying on the ridge and mounting several false summits. Made the summit as water ran out. Beautiful views. Will be back for winter ascent.
Dayhiked from Meysan Lake trailhead with Jen Blackie and climb up the chute above Grass Lake. Could have done with a bit more snow as the loose rock up top was very unstable but a nice climb. Great views from up top.
Slogged up the NE Slope with Richarp P. Great views, horrible sand slog.
A great ridge climb! Fun partners to boot...Blair and Sheila.
W Double D and Dirty She. Awesome Mountain, Awesome route
Slogged the NW slope with intentions of returning to do the North Ridge. Gotta be one of the loosest crapiest things ever but at least I'll be able to find the way down next time. I feel like such a wuss when the route has the word "slope" in it haha.
day hike-snow conditions, average climb. would like to do NE ridge
Too tired to drink the pale ale waiting from me back at the car :(
Climbed with 2 rope teams of 3. This slowed things down a little. Beautiful ridge climb with great views of the valley.
Dayhike from Meysan Creek TH.
Success with Mike, Miguel, Tony, Joan and Isabelle! Great day, but very long with 2 teams of 3
Long day filled with excitment. I will not soon forget this climb.
On the 4th attempt of the peak I soloed the N. Ridge.
up one of the canyons from the whitney portal road
Attempted the North Ridge of LPP. Attempted the climb from Whitney Portal road to Meysan Lakes Trail after being advised to do so by a local. Wandered and thrashed in the drainage (we started at 1am), thrashed some more, and gave up. Blessing in disguise as winds upward of 70 mph were present on the ridge...definitely will be back for that one!
With Rick Kent, Daniel Torres, and his bud Steven. Descended to Meysan Lake and was able to borrow a car to get back to the "trailhead". Magnificent snow climb. A definite classic.
