Looking for a Pot of Gold...

Looking for a Pot of Gold...

in my backyard. My wife and I woke up around five in the morning to a damp ground and partly cloudy skies. Since we had planned to hike, we decided to go anyway. We did get rained on a little, but I was able to bring back a pot of gold. Saturday, 12-13-08

Jackpot Shot

Sounds suspicious but looks gorgeous, as usual - I reckon you've earned this gold Marc

Re: Pot Shot

"There's a pot of Gold at the end of every Rainbow" is an American idiom. It's not serious. But, you could call my photo a "Pot Shot" since I had to hurry because of the rain.
Thanks Jacek,
Marc

Dwarf

Hope you don't mind my having two questions:
1. You mean t'was bucketing down? Or d'you mean you dashed/shot to take the shot/pot (of gold)?LOL Sorry, but it's hard for a non-native speaker to learn all those words and phrases multiplied by so many meanings - one has to rely on context, and this occasionally happens to be misleading
2. Does the dwarf still hold in the States? (I've read a few Celtic legends)

Re: Dwarf

I am sorry, but I don't understand your questions. And, I don't understand how the term "Dwaf" got into this thread!

Re: Dwarf & Jack's Pot Shot

Dreadfully sorry Marc, I turned the thread into a spider web and got entangled myself:)) Your justification of my heading for your fabulous rainbow photo was that it could be accepted as you had to run so at first I thought, for an instant, that 'pot' might also refer to rain but, on second thought, it seemed highly unlikely. The problem actually arose of my ignorance as I just didn't realize that the basic meaning of ‘pot shot’ is ‘casual/aimless shot’. So I've learnt something but it seems you paid for that lesson :) I really do apologize. I've changed the line and hope it fits in now, also as my name can be translated as Jack.

As to the dwarf, the melting pot (dear me, one more pot:D) the USA is seems to be bigger than I thought. Now I guess people in the West of America might be more familiar with native American legends than old European stories. The funniest thing I've just discovered on the Net is the second line of the following passage: "The idea that a pot of gold can be found at the rainbow's end originated somewhere in old Europe. In Silesia, an obscure area of eastern Europe, it was said that the angels put the gold there and that only a nude man could obtain the prize." I happen to live in Lower Silesia but had never heard this story. (However, Silesia was completely different before World War II.) Anyway, it looks like next time I go shooting pictures in the mountains I should go naked :)) And here is the dwarf
Cheers,

Re: Dwarf & Jack's Pot Shot

Hi Jacek, not to worry please. You are obviously a well-read person, and I am happy you explained the old legends of old Europe in regards to "Rainbows, and Pots of Gold" and "Dwarves" very well. It's just that I didn't understand your first question, and I couldn't relate to the second one. Please accept my apologies.
Have a great day,
Marc
