Beautiful Fall Day  Sucess!

MIchael and I started at Affleck Park Campground. The overcast skies and cool temperatures were wonderful. I need to explore these rolling hills more often.

From the Affleck CG TH  Sucess!

#1 11-03-23 W/Lana. Overcast skies, trail carpeted with fallen autumn leaves, gentle breezes - in short, an ideal day to climb this peak located a couple of miles south of Grandview Peak. My elevation app showed exactly 8 miles r/t. Had to step on frozen snow perhaps a dozen times the entire hike. #2 10-30-24 W/Lana. Storm last night dropped several inches of new snow. 27° at start, 15° on top. 2+58 up. In and out of clouds entire hike. Peak #90 in the expanded 80in80 project.

Summiting Lookout Peak  Sucess!

If you drive the Parley's Canyon often, you will have seen this peak numerous times. It is the large peak to the north of I-80 as you pass the East Canyon exit. It is a very gentle hike with no scrambling required and the grade is very gradual. Once you get up to the ridge, you will cross over about 5 false summits so be patient- the true summit will come. Lookout Peak  Sucess!

Kimberly and I climbed Lookout Peak in the Wasatch. We got a later start than we wanted so it was hot, but it was still a nice climb. The views were nice too. After the climb we drove back home to Colorado.

Nice hike!  Sucess!

Great hike from Afleck campground (not picnic area as in the route description). Hiked with RBD. Getting hot already this time of year and there is no shade on this route. Awesome views from the summit and only saw two other people the entire hike. Wildflowers all over. Great half day hike.

So many false summits  Sucess!

I love a decently long hike and Lookout did not disappoint. The false summits were heartbreakers though. I read a story to my friend at the summit and enjoyed a pumpkin spice bagel. Much joy and gladness.

Big Mountain / Lookout Peak loop

I ran a 16 mile, ~3500' loop over Big Mountain and Lookout Peak, based on this mountain biking route, starting and ending at the Pioneer Trail parking area. The trail did not quite go to the very summit of either, and somehow I didn't have it in me to take detours (except by accident), so I don't know how much this counts as peakbagging, but it counts as taking a good beating and as excellent solitude with incredible views. It took me 4 hours to complete, part of which was spent waiting for my friend on a mountain bike who got behind because the climb up Big Mountain is pretty brutal for a bike, then broke his derailleur, got lost, coasted down City Creek Canyon, ended up at my residence, and had to drive my car back up to get me and his car at the trailhead. Kind of a crazy day.

Gret fall Color Hike  Sucess!

Various routes and climbs, about a dozen total. probably my favorite trip was a ski tour, we started up the Mountain dell road from the closure at Little dell, gained the ridge at via Afleck Park then skied up the main trail. The Descent was via City Creek Canyon, skied a few laps off the north face and then a great cruise nearly to the mouth of the canyon. Long day!!

Nice Hike  Sucess!

Very nice hike. Beautiful day with lots of flowers. I remember one section where I had to run from the bugs in the slippery mud.

Fall is here  Sucess!

Started at Affleck Park, then continued to Grandview Peak an dback via the Wasatch 100 route that skirts the NE slopes of Lookout. Note: When starting at Affleck Park you can start at campground #6, but must quickly cross a bridge and turn left followed a few hundred yards later by another bridge...this actually puts you in a different part of the campground, an area also accessible by cars, but the trail is lush and beautiful and worth the extra hike. The actual trail starts at the red gate and is refered to as Burnt Flats on a nearby map.

Unique View of Salt Lake

Very pleasant hike, with views of Red Butte, Emigration, and City Creek canyons. Also view of Salt Lake Valley and Lake much different than those from more southern Wasatch area. Started hike from Affleck park.
