Lost Lakes

This basin is pure high Sierra country. A chain of lakes buried between a series of huge glacial moraines lies just below the permanent ice field. Also so typical of the High Sierra the summit you see is NOT the summit you find; it lies completely out of sight, above and beyond the highest cliff you can see. Lamarck Col itself is high up on the far left behind the visible ridge: this is not the best way to get there.
