Re: well...who wouldn't be happy climbing with Steph Abegg! Night photography followed by a long traverse makes Mark a happy boy (although for the record, while I had plans only for the cowboy hat, it was Steph who suggested to bring a hot pink one and I couldn't back down from that). =)

I came by SummitPost to find words to make a crossword puzzle for my wife. She likes to climb while I stay at base camp vegging out. I read some of your postings. You are a clear and excellent writer. I also read of your tragedy with Tom on Mt. Shasta. What a horrible experience. Life has a funny way of giving a pass on someone who's doing everything wrong and another person who's doing everything right dies. I'm one of the lucky ones. I did two stupid acts on Mt. Shasta that resulted in a medical evacuation via helocopter off Mt. Shasta. But I love life and I love backpacking. I hope to read more of your work in the future.

Thanks for the kind words. I had meant to respond to this earlier, but it's always hard to know just how to respond to such things . . . Partly due to developing knee issues from an old surgery, and also some motivation from a direction Tom had started me on (in attitude towards fear & living life) I've been doing a lot more climbing, mostly in the technical realm. This has left less time for writings, and they usually end up on SuperTopo since they are more relevant there as they are less 'alpine-oriented', but I have some SummitPost-type reports in the works. I'm not around too much here, but knowing that some people appreciate the photos and reports helps me remember from time to time to put something up here too!

Small WorldYou met Steph? I'm starting to become a great believer that it really is a small world after all. ;-) As for the quote "I'm man enough to wear a pink cowboy hat" I have to agree!

Re: Small WorldYep. Thanks to Steph I'm starting to get into some night photography. Perhaps I'll run into in the PNW one of these days? I'm hoping to get up there for some climbing & photography one of these days.
