Many Glacier, April

A view across frozen Swiftcurrent Lake at the lonely Many Glacier Hotel. This vantage point helps put the enormity of Allen Mountain in perspective. The north summit, not quite 8,000 feet, rises immediately behind the hotel. A jagged ridge leads southward (right) for over two miles and rises to 9,376 feet at the snowy, fan-shaped summit. Mount Gould, a taller neighbor of Allen, is draped in clouds on the extreme right. April 21, 2012
