Wow!

Cool trip you guys. We were up there on July 4th to do Pyramid. We climbed the same ridge with the thumb that you came down. I think we passed over the ridge the same way as the pic with Caren.

That's some serious milage up there!

Re: Wow!

Interesting little problem that the ridge poses. It can easily be circumvented by descending the southern most gully to the west or traversing the scree field on the east side, but it is much more satisfying staying on the crest. Not to mention that I'll trade class three, four or five rock for scree running and boulder hopping any day.

Very nice

Sounds like a fine day, too bad the weather didn't cooperate a little better. Cheers

Re: Very nice

Can't complain too much about the weather... just makes things a bit more interesting and keeps one moving! Great profile pic by the way. I think I recognize the area!

Re: great day...

Really was a great day, but is one ever really satisfied? Just getting our fixes between stints on the job...

Good stuff!

Thanks for the read! How much, on average, did you need to gain altitude between the summits?

Re: Good stuff!

The ascent from highway 50 to Pyramid was about 4500 feet. Once atop Pyramid the descent/climb to Agassiz was no more than 500 feet. Agassiz to Price was no more than 200 feet of down and up. From Price the descent to Mosquito Pass is about 1600 feet. Then up 1500 to Jack's. Between Jack's and Dick's is about 300 feet of down and 400 feet of up. All of the above was off trail except the climb to Pyramid. From Dick's we descended almost 1700 feet before starting up the 1500 feet to Tallac. We could have maintained altitude by staying on the ridge between the two, but chose to descend because we could use trail and save time by avoiding the 2 and 1/2 mile technical ridge. Tallac to Ralston involves about 2000 feet of down and 1500 feet of up all on trail. from there it is all downhill to the car... about 3000 feet give or take.

Thanks for the interest. I hadn't even put together a profile until now. Just knew that we spent a lot of time going up and down.
