Marmolada North Face and NW routes

Marmolada North Face and NW routes

Approaching the north face - the blue lines mark some of the possibilities to climb the face. This approach is also for the Normal Route, which goes goes to the left of the prominent rock triangle in the middle of the picure, and the NW route (green), a relatively easy snow climb to the right the actual north face. Slightly misleading - the north face looks less steep than it is from here (compare to this picture) The north face has like many faces in the Alps has lost a lot of it's ice in the last decades, and conditions differ from year to year. This picture was taken at the end of May 2006 - after a snow-rich winter. Expect less snow at that time of the year in other years.
