Mars over the Tower

Mars over the Tower

This has to be one of my favorite photographs. I used a Nikon N80 with a 17 to 35 2.8 lens set at 17mm and f=2.8 for about 25 minutes around 10:00pm. We were staying at Devil's Tower Lodge with Frank Sanders. He was entertaining us on the piano and I ran outside between songs to shoot this. This being my first try at star trails, I was thrilled with the results. This was shot on September 3 of 2003 a few hours after finally getting to summit. This night Mars was closer to earth than it will be in something like 200 years. The green forground was caused by the pole light in Frank's yard. Everything about that trip was fantastic!

Wow!

And you said my photo looked unreal?! When I look at this one, I can almost see the spaceship, full of aliens, coming in for landing...
