I love to take visitors to Portage Pass and have thought about scrambling on up that peak. You've encouraged me. I do have one nit to pick--there's no way those slopes are 60 degrees. They ARE steep, might be a 60% grade--is that what you meant?
I am unclear as to the distinction, but am thinking in terms of horizontal being 0 degrees vs vertical being 90 degrees, when I estimate the slopes to be in the 60 degree range. They are quite steep and approach vertical in spots depending on your route finding skills. I think one of my photos gives a good perspective on them.
