Mbwelesu crater floor
Zooming further onto the crater floor, the surface of the underground lava lake can be clearly seen through the larger vent on the right. The opening of this vent is about 8 meters across -- a meager shadow of its former self. Frequently during the past few decades, Mbwelesu crater actually contained surface lava lakes up to several dozen meters across.
