Meet the Admiral
This is a beautiful Weidemeyer's Admiral (Limenitis weidemeyerii)
that I spotted on top of Big Falls near the stream in the
Spring Mountains of Nevada.
July 2007.
The Weidemeyer's admiral is also known as the Western Admiral. These butterflies are closely related to the viceroys (Limenitis archippus) and the Red admiral (Vanessa atalanta).
