Milky way in the middle of the desert

Milky way in the middle of the desert

I shot this before falling asleep on an open roof in Wadi Rum. Nothing like a blanket of stars for a cover. This is our home!!! Unbelievable....

Miss...

sleeping on our open roof in the old country.
I see Vega. The brightest star in the 4th quadrant of your photo. This is the star that I picked for myself in my youth.

Re: Miss...

Nothing like sleeping out in the open. Vegas is a beautiful star....although now I feel selfish because I've picked the whole constellation of Orion for myself.

Re: Miss...

You can have Orion, as long as you leave Lyra alone for me.
BTW, it's Vega. Vega is the brightest star in the Lyra constellation. The "Ring Nebula" is there too. It's in between the two dim stars of the tail of Lyra.

Re: Miss...

HAHAHA!! Oh my gosh, I knew it was Vega. I live in Vegas and so used to typing it. Sorry....I was a fanatical amateur stargazer in my youth and astronomy was my favorite subject (and still is one of interest). Funny typo....and at the same time, so "Vegas" of me. :)

Re: Miss...

Hi Christine, It's funny that you used to be into astronomy. Well, we have another thing in common besides the love for the mountains. I used to be fanatical about astronomy too.
Happy climbing,
:-)

Arggg.....

I shot the same scene from the same place last week, but my photos didn't turn out this nice. You have a lot of great shots. Thanks!

Re: Arggg.....

Thank you so much. That's awesome that you've been! I love it and just spoke to a local friend from there; definitely hope to go back one day. How was the climbing? I didn't get to do it there yet.....one day. :)

The climbing was great, I din't really do anything harder than 5.4, planning to go back in March

Re: Beautiful shot

Thanks! Yes....love going down the trails less trodden than where there is a scene.
