Missouri Mtn. from Missouri Gulch  Sucess!

From Missouri Gulch. Originally thought of bagging all three peaks (Missouri, Belford and Oxford) but decided to only do Missouri this day. Belford and Oxford will have to wait for another day.

#16  Sucess!

We backpacked into Pine Creek and climbed Missouri from the East. Steep as heck, but we didn't see anyone all day. On the summit at 9AM, down by 11AM. Wonderful views.

West Ridge  Sucess!

Started below Clohesy Lake, Clear Creek wasn't a problem. I think I wound up taking a deer trail above treeline on the way up. Returned over Missouri after going to Iowa and Emerald. Great day and perfect weather.

Elkhead Pass  Sucess!

Came over after Belford/Oxford. Dropped down the South side of Elkhead Pass and traversed around the cliffs, reclimbing a grassy chute back to the ridge. Then descended the NW ridge trail along with the hordes. A great day in the mountains.

Bel-Ox-Emarld-Iowa-MO  Sucess!

Over 8,000 vertical ft. and a lot of miles, but the scenery made it worthwhile.

via Cloyses Lake  Sucess!

Didn't want to do Missouri Gulch for the 3rd time so found the Cloyses Lake TH. So glad I did! Beautiful camping near the lake. Descended by way of the scree slope which saved time but my dog Kaya didn't like it too much!

Dedicated to Dad  Sucess!

Dedicated this one to my Dad who passed away in l992. His home state was of course, Missouri. Left Missouri Gulch trailhead at 6:30am and was on top at 11:35am. Ridge walk seem scary as this was only my 4th 14er.

Friday night hike  Sucess!

Left work in Denver at 3pm, started hiking at 615pm. Gained the Missouri summit ridge just as the sun set. Summitted about 30 minutes later. Descended under a full moon. One of the most beautiful and memorable hikes.

Via NW Ridge  Sucess!

Did all 3 this day starting with Missouri. My GPS says we climbed a total of 8220 feet. Except for the Couloir's, the snow is basically gone. There is now a pretty well developed trail along the NW Ridge route, much different than my first Missouri climb in 1993.

Via Cloyses Lake TH  Sucess!

Clear creek wasn't too high and came up over the lower part of my bumper on my stock 4runner. Make sure you stay left on the first creek crossing--there is a deep hole to the right (Get out and walk the creek first before you cross). Only scraped bottom once or twice on the road on the way up...no problem for most stock 4wd and really easy for vehicles with some lift. Spent the night up at Cloyses lake. We were the only ones camping at the lake...beautiful place to camp. This isn't true car camping though cause the lake is maybe a quarter mile from the end of the road. Bring a backpack or something if you want to haul your camping gear up to the lake.

Met the rest of our group in the morning at the TH and started up the trail just before 9. Steep, but beautifully short. We summitted around 1145. Some storms came in shortly after noon and started to produce some thunder. I bailed on returning back along the west ridge and went south on the other ridge to the saddle there and then dropped down one of the chutes there back into the basin where we came from. I got down over an hour faster than my companions that went back the way we came up. This is a great escape route from the ridge if you get in bad weather as long as you don't mind a little "scree surfing". It wasn't that steep and you would sink into the scree and sand sort of like plunge stepping when snowshoeing. It was nice and easy on my knees. However, its not very low impact as you are knocking rocks down so don't do it unless you really need to for your safety. Fun day. Great easy hike.

From Clohesy Lake TH  Sucess!

Started up at 5:10AM and reached the summit at 8:10 occupied by "Dave" and his two dogs, very good weather with fine views of many peaks all around. Stayed about 20 mins then back down to the car by 10:56AM, not a soul on this trail today. My 28th 14'er.....sweet!

Climbed in the snow with fellow SPers Robert LeClair and Alan Arnette. Very challenging after a heavy winter that seems to not want to quit. My 20th 14er with 34 to go!

Really don't remember the route  Sucess!

Hiked this mountain with a nice group of women. Enjoyed the views, plenty of late-season snow, and some grizzled-old mountain man and his dog on the summit.
