Re: Spectacular..........The Wind Rivers and especially the Cirque of the Towers is truly a spectacular place. If you ever get the chance it really is worth the hike and horrible drive into the trailhead.

Re: Spectacular..........Thanks Greg! I live in Northern Colorado but I have spent a lot of my time in Wyoming. Love the Winds-haven't been to the Cirque yet. Planning a trip for August, tentatively thru Sweetwater Gap and into that Tayo Creek/Middle Fork Popo Agie drainage.

Re: Spectacular..........I have only been into the Cirque, but I was smitten with the area. I am from up near Jasper so it was a big change in scenery. Granite, altitude above 10 000 ft with no glaciers, etc...We came in over Jackass Pass and found it quite reasonable.

Re: Wonderful Composition...It's funny how a digital camera can make a photgrapher out of just about anyone willing to take enough pictures.
My wife gives me a hard time about only taking mountin pics so I was trying to add something to the pics. Believe many of these did not turn out, but I relly like this one and the one with the Cirque itself with the flowers in front.

Wonderful picture of Mitchell PeakI first went to the Wind Rivers in 1962. Our family had a cabin in Big Sandy Openings. I first started climbing there in 1973. Those are a wonderful mountain range.There are alpine climbs in the northern end of The Winds where there are 1000 ft. Ice climbs and big wall climbing of 2000ft. to 1000ft. All thuorgh the Winds. I realy enjoy your picture.

Re: Wonderful picture of Mitchell PeakWatch out for the lighting with the 2pm storms that seem to start to come over the mountains just as you seem to summit the mountains. Had a close call on Wolves Head Ridge one year. A near miss with lighting

Re: Wonderful picture of Mitchell PeakWe were quite lucky while we were there. The weather threatend in the early afternoon on our way in and just as we neared the summit of Pingora on day 2. Nothing ever materialized though and the rest of the trip was perfect.

Re: wonderful picture of Mitchell PeakGreg, have you climbed the backside of Mitchell's Peak? I always thought it was Mitchell's Peak, I may be wrong though. I climbed it back in the early 1980's and we broke off the trail from North lake and just walked straight up about 2 miles to the saddle which is to the right side of the peak.....from there it is just a short distance to the top. Once we got to the top, we found a glass jar with a notepad in it so you could sign your name......wonder if it is still there? I'm 67 now and plan on going up to the peak this August, so I'll answer that question. Anyway, if you haven't climbed it,you should try this route...just get your thighs in great shape. You being a camera buff can get some of the greatest shots from the peak, it's like looking out of an airplane. We could see all the way to Utah which is an amazing distance.
