Mogollon meadow

Mogollon meadow

Normally, a person would see elk feeding in this mountain meadow, just west of Willow Springs Lake. The word "Mogollon"(MUGGY-ON) comes from the Mogollon Plateau. It was named after one of the Spanish colonial governors of New Mexico. This is in central Arizona, at about 7,900 feet. Taken 12/13/2007.

Muggiam

That's how my mom pronounces the word "Mogollon". She lived in Kingman and Bullhead City for a number of years and corrected my pronounciation of the name by saying that the locals call it "Muggiam" But, I can now bug her by calling it "Mo-gull-on" Rim. Nice picture.

Yes sir,

It's kinda NEAT how we can CONNECT
all the dots together. I don't know
how the Spanish pronounce "Mogollon,"
but I've heard the Apache tribe prononce
it as "MUGGY-ON." I guess because it can
really get "muggy" up there. Then you have
the Mazatzal, which means "mountains where
there are deer." No moose ... just deer.
Thank you kindly, Dean!
