Yes, Via Vandelli was built to bring the coach of the prince of Modena (and the dude himself of course) across the mountains to the sea. Still a good hiking route today. For the summit you'd need to overcome your vertigo. It's not too bad actually but from what you wrote in a recent post on the boards I gather it would be a challenge.
