Monument 83 Peak

Monument 83 Peak

At the summit area of Monument 83 Peak, located at the international border of Washington (USA) and British Columbia (Canada). The US Forest Service built the log cupola cabin during 1930, and then the 30'-tall L-4 cab timber tower during 1953. For three decades it was thought that the log cabin was the northernmost fire lookout in the contiguous United States. However, a revised border survey that took place during the 1960s showed the cabin was actually several feet on the Canadian side of the international border. This made the cabin the southernmost fire lookout in Canada while at the same time making the timber tower the northernmost fire lookout in the contiguous United States. Photo taken on June 14, 2014.
