Moon, Mars and a Butte

This June 2003 image shows a nice butte just north of Canyon de Chelly in Arizona. It's difficult to see, but adjacent to the obvious moon is the planet Mars (it's located about half the width of the moon away at the 1:30 clock position). Mars was quite bright, and of course, was enroute to a very close encounter with Earth a few weeks later. And we (my son and I) were headed for an early morning encounter with Monument Valley.
