More destruction at 6000 ft

The 2001 Thirtymile Fire (named after the peak "10 miles" north of North Twentymile Peak burned a lot of square miles, and killed four firefighters. Yet, still some stands of trees were amazingly spared. It made me cogitate on just exactly how a stand (or a singular tree) can be spared when there had to have been fire all around it.
