Granite is cool.
Wife and I were doing the jaunt through SEKI -- worth the stop!
Mary and I climbed this on Labor Day Weekend 2009. I finally had a day off after 12 straight days in the hospital, so we drove out and camped at Dorst CG and then did this awesome route the next day. The approach was annoying to say the least, but we found the start of the route without too much difficulty. The climbing was excellent; nearly every pitch had interesting moves and there was a good variety of climbing types. The descent down the stairs was sweet, but delayed by the usual barrage of questions and photo taking by the tourists.
Very cool trek to the top for great views!! Fun family summit!
Natural Born Hikers - Moro Rock
Great view from the top and I also had a lil fun bouldering in the area. Worth going for sure.
Did the stairs are were the only Americans there at that time.
An easy summit - but a spectacular view. So good I went back and climbed it again a couple of days later!
On the road back from Grant Grove
Finished off a great day in the SEKI area. Recommed this to anyone- especially if you like company!
My wife had the idea of a midnight star gaze on Moro Rock. All the stairs, ramps, and handrails cannot keep this from being dark and scary. Once at the top though, it was stars forever - except for the distant flare of a forest fire. On the way back to our cabin we nearly collided with a sow bear and two cubs. Neither of us slept much after that.
the stairs, but it was a long time ago.
Followed the masses up the stairs, would love to climb it one day.
I cheated and took the stairs. Easy walk and worth every step. sweet view from the top.
when it's late in the day and you only have time for a short one (stairs). One of the best spots to view the sunset.
One of my first trad routes with Doug Robinson guiding.
Over the years, I've climbed multiple routes on Moro. Just a few: T-Rex (5.9), Bear Damage (5.10a), Flight Of Stares (5.10), Direct East Face (5.7 A2), Lizards Kiss (5.8), Off Ramp (5.7), Pennies On The Patio (5.9), South Face (5.8), Ladies On Top (5.10), Purple Haze (5.10)
And a big time Natty Park Junkie! I love the old hardware and steps on some classics! I don't want them everywhere, but they are unique and a good mix of man and nature. Which is one in the same to me. I think I 've been here three times now? Didn't know there were two day climbs on it!
A good little jaunt with great views to take in when driving through SEKI even when with those who don't tend to hike much.
I give weekly talks on top of the rock - no better spot to do a program from!
Rappelled down the east side and top-roped Bear damage and another one close to it. We also climbed the stairs to the top.
