Morrow Mtn  Sucess!

Not bad views from such a short hill. This is probably more of a picnic spot than a summit, as it's a drive-up. Still, the region is underrated.

I sometimes drive to the top of Morrow Mountain, and sometimes hike the Morrow Mountain Trail. The park and the area are full of trails to the various important summits of the Uwharrie Mountains. The Hattaway Mountain Trail was one I'd never hiked, so I bagged that peak. It's a 2.2 mile trail with a total elevation gain of about 650 feet. Listed as "strenuous" by the park system, I found it to be quite easy. It's a walk-up with no scrambling at all. There are no views to be had, as there is no exposed rock to mention. I saw a couple of non-venomous snakes along the way (one extremely large black snake who took off like a flash before I could get his photo), and a number of extremely docile white-tailed deer.
