Standard route with a more interesting descentWith Megan Berry. Made what could have been a generic 14-er plod rather more interesting by coming down via the N ridge to Pt 13762 and from there NE then E to rejoin the Baldwin Gulch 4 WD road at the ford. One tricky part in a steep chute that cliffed out on the descent was surprisingly home to handy fixed rope. Thank you, someone!

Standard Route14er #27. Hiked 14,275 ft. Mount Antero today. We drove on a rough and rocky 4WD road for a few miles and camped around 11,000 ft. On Sunday we drove further up to approximately 12,000 ft. and hiked 7 miles round trip up to the summit and back down in 6 hours. Finally finished Colorado's Sawatch Range 14ers!

Sawatch Range CompleteSaved Mt Antero for last because I heard it was boring as a 14er. Hiking the 4x4 road seeing gem mining operations and even the Discovery crew filming was interesting. Also nearby mountain slopes had cool earth reds and greens to look at. Kinda a long day with over 15miles, and 5,000' elevation gain from the Baldwin Gulch road. Started early at 5am to reach the summit at 10am, and back down in the heat at 1pm.

West SlopesWe drove to the creek crossing at 10,850 ft and then hiked from there. The 3 mi drive on the jeep road was the crux of the trip.

Finishing out the SawatchPrettier and more enjoyable hike than I expected, as it's not such a great mountain to look at.

Baldwin Gulch RoadDrove about 2.5 miles up, felt sorry for my car, so made my son and Duchess (14 years old) to hike up the rest of the road. I parted with them below Antero, and continue onto Mt. White and Cronin Peak.
I am so happy to be done with 14ers - there were at least 50 people on the summit! (church youth groups etc).

Good time on Antero3 hrs, 5 mins to summit from Baldwin Gulch TH. Under 6 hours total. 5k gain over 12 miles. Just made the summit before weather came. "Be off the summit by noon" is a good rule of thumb except when it storms at 10:30am. haha.

Halfway done!Halfway done with the CO 14ers! Hiked up from the overflowing river. Got the Outback up the road almost to the river, bumpy ride for sure. Car seems okay. A few snow patches across the road, but nothing impassable. No need for snowshoes or traction - yippee!

Nice hikeAntero was a nice easy 14er, if you drive all the way to the top of the 4x4 road it's not far at all to the summit. We stopped about 3 miles from the top and hiked from there.

Standard routeHiked all 15 miles on a very hot day - the mountain itself isn't that pretty but the views were great.

Via Baldwin GulchOnly 9.5 hours RT. Small bootpack lower down on the road. Not much snow up there. Had bitter cold temps in the morning...probably 0 to -8 would be my guess. It feels like winter up there but it certainly doesn't look like it.
No one else all day.

Late FallThis was a fun, quick outing in the late fall. Good 4WDing to the river crossing. The road after the crossing was blocked by an ice sheet. The hike from there was ~3,200 quick feet of vertical.

Baldwin GulchWould not recommend hiking this road... you're competing with motorcycles, ATVs, and lots of other 4WD offroad vehicles (and their fumes/noise). Was not a fun hike by this route.
