A large slab avalanche occurred in the Baldy Bowl in February 2005. The crown line starts just outside the image frame near the lower lefthand corner, and continues in a jagged line (obscured in places by later loose snow slides) up into the sunlit area in the upper right. The crown continued across the bowl behind the pine tree in the right margin foreground, as can be seen
here. The rough snow surface in the foreground is part of the same slide. This photo was taken about 500 vertical feet below the top of the slide, and several hundred vertical feet below the toe of the debris field. February 26, 2005.
